On September 22nd, the Ministry of Economy and Finance signed partnership agreements with several Moroccan universities to develop a volunteer program during the annual meetings of the World Bank Group (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which will be held in Marrakech in October 2023.
A press release from the Ministry of Economy and Finance explained that these agreements, which were signed during a ceremony chaired by the Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fattah, the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation Abdellatif Miraoui, and Bank Al-Maghrib Governor, Abdellatif Jouahri, aims to define a framework for the mobilization of approximately 500 students from universities that signed up to volunteer during the annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund.
The ceremony was attended by the presidents and representatives of the universities concerned, namely, Mohammed V University in Rabat, Cadi Ayyad University, Al Akhawayn University, the International University of Rabat, and Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, said the same source, noting that other universities will be approached as well in the coming months to join this partnership program.
The mobilization of volunteer students for the benefit of the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund aims to promote the image of Moroccan youth and highlight their participation and commitment to the country’s major events. Moreover, it hopes to give the volunteers the opportunity to live the unique experience offered by Morocco’s hosting of the 2023 edition of the Annual Meetings of the two international institutions.
In addition to that, it is expected that these annual meetings will witness the participation of nearly 14,000 people, including finance ministers and central bank governors of 189 member states of WB and IMF, in addition to senior members of international financial institutions, international experts, opinion makers, and representatives of mainstream media, non-governmental organizations, and academia.
