The Moroccan-US disaster management exercise “Morocco Mantlet 2022” is taking place from September 12 to September 23 at the Rescue and Salvage Unit of the Military Engineering and the 3rd Air Base of the Royal Air Forces in Kenitra, pursuant to the High Instructions of His Majesty the King, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces.
Every year, the U.S. Risk Management Agency, the Utah State National Guard teams, and specialist FAR disaster management teams participate in “Morocco Mantlet,” a combined disaster management exercise. Developing technical and procedural interoperability between the specific modules of the responders is one of its objectives.
This activity’s schedule comprises field trainings, seminars and training for executives, as well as intervention modules. According to a statement by the FAR General Staff, visits by American and Moroccan military authorities to various locations and training workshops are also scheduled.
On September 20, 2022, the Lieutenant General, Inspector General of FAR, and Commander of the South Zone received Major General Michael Turley, Commander of the State of Utah National Guard, who was leading a military delegation on an official visit to the Kingdom from September 19 to 22, 2022, at the FAR General Staff headquarters. This meeting took place concurrently with the exercise.
The same source added that the two officials went over different aspects of cooperation, while putting an emphasis on the National Guard of the State of Utah and FAR’s commitment to strengthen their partnership even further, in addition to the already existing ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America.
