On Tuesday noon, a joint operation between the national security interests and Customs at El Guergarat crossing, located south of the city of Dakhla, aborted an attempt to smuggle international drugs and seized nearly three tons and 215 kilograms of hashish.
A communiqué from the General Directorate of National Security stated that the monitoring procedures carried out at the border crossing resulted in the confiscation of seized drugs wrapped in a shipment of agricultural supplies, which was loaded on a trailer connected to an international transport truck registered in Morocco.
The same source added that the driver of the truck, a 34-year-old Moroccan citizen, was arrested and subjected to judicial search procedures entrusted by the public prosecution to the competent security authority of the territory, so as to detect possible links of this case with international smuggling networks of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
